Two of the world’s most famous university towns, Oxford and Cambridge, offer an ‘education’ in English architecture and world-class academia, while history buffs will be giddy with excitement when they arrive in 2000-year old York. Bawdy Brighton is everyone’s favorite seaside resort, but if it’s the England of Jane Austen you’re after rather than Graham Greene, then the classic cathedral cities of Salisbury and Durham tick off many ‘quintessential England’ boxes.
